Since 1743 of the Edo period, the Yoshida Brewery has been producing local sakes in Yamagata from age-old know-how. Its Gassan 月山 brand means between mountain and moon in reference to the castle built on Gassan Tomita Mountain located near the brewery and renowned for the purity of its spring water.
Gassan No Yuki Junmai Ginjô 月山の雪純米吟 is produced with the Dewa sansan rice variety grown in Yamagata, renowned for its rice and the water used comes from melting snow, hence the name Yuki (snow).
This sake was awarded a platinum medal at the 2007 concoeurs Wine challenge in London in the sake category.
