Satsuki is an online Japanese grocery store with a physical shop in Lyon, established in 2008. We offer Japanese products for cooking, discovering, giving as gifts or simply enjoying the flavours of Japan in everyday life. Groceries, tea, sake, drinks, tableware, utensils, bento boxes and items linked to Japanese culture: our selection is built around one simple idea — making good Japanese products accessible in France.
How Satsuki began ?
The story of Satsuki began far from Japan, with Nicolas, who had spent more than ten years working in animal welfare and caring for dogs, cats and all kinds of animals. Meeting Akemi opened the door to Japan, its cuisine, its products and its everyday habits.
At the time, it was more difficult to find simple, high-quality Japanese ingredients in France.
This difficulty, together with several trips to Japan, gave rise to the idea of creating a genuine shop dedicated to Japanese food culture and making it accessible to as many people as possible.
The name Satsuki came naturally: it is a Japanese female given name, an old name for the month of May in Japan, and the name of a Japanese azalea prized for its blossoms. A gentle name that evokes the season, freshness and a connection with Japan...
Everyday Japanese products selected for their quality
At Satsuki, we select products for their quality, not price alone. Our aim is not simply to offer the cheapest options, but to choose reliable, good and useful products — the kind Japanese people use at home every day: rice, miso, soy sauce, dashi, mirin, noodles, seaweed, furikake, Japanese curry, ramen, condiments, matcha and more.

Satsuki is recognised as a Japanese Food and Ingredient Supporter Store under a programme based on guidelines issued by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
A French-Japanese team here to help
Satsuki is supported by a French-Japanese team. This helps us better understand the products, how they are used, their differences, and the expectations of both French and Japanese customers. Miso, soy sauce, green tea, dashi or sake should not be chosen from a photo alone: you need to know how the product is used, what it pairs well with and which purpose it suits.
Orders prepared in France
Orders are prepared in France by our team, with particular care given to packing fragile, heavy or sensitive products. This means there are no customs charges to pay.
