Tteokbokki
Tteokbokki or toppoki? :
These two words actually refer to the same Korean dish. The difference comes from the transcription of Korean into Latin characters.
Toppoki is an old, approximate transcription. It is also sometimes found in the form topokki, tokpokki or even dukbokki.
Tteokbokki: the essential Korean rice sticks
Tteokbokki 떡볶이 (떡 (tteok): rice cake, 볶이 (bokki): stir-fried/cooked in sauce) is one of the most iconic dishes of Korean street food. Made with soft rice sticks (tteok) simmered in a spicy gochujang sauce, it appeals with its unique texture and balance between sweetness and intensity.
Very popular in Korea, tteokbokki is now finding its way into European kitchens thanks to its quick and easy preparation. Simply simmer the tteok with the sauce to create a generous, flavourful dish that is ready in minutes.
