FAQ: Delivery and Order Fulfilment

Your orders are prepared as quickly as possible after they are received by our logistics team.

Each product is checked using a scanning system to minimise the risk of items being missing or mixed up. A second visual check is carried out to ensure that the products are free from defects.

Fragile items are packed with care, and we use various types of cardboard or bubble wrap as packing material, depending on the nature of the products.

We use recycled cardboard boxes and reuse a large number of the manufacturers’ boxes that originally contained our products, provided they offer sufficient protection and are clean.

The parcels are then stored on pallets or in dedicated containers, indoors, until they are collected by the carriers.

We mainly deliver to mainland France, Western European countries and Switzerland.

The full list of countries we serve is available on our page dedicated to delivery charges.

Unfortunately, we are unable to dispatch parcels to the DROM COM (formerly DOM TOM) or to countries outside Europe.

Please note that Corsica has specific shipping requirements.

Orders are dispatched as quickly as possible, usually within 24 working hours.

Orders placed before 11.00 am are usually dispatched the same day.

Please note that we do not dispatch orders on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays.

Please also note that during busy periods (Christmas, New Year, etc.), delivery may take a little longer.

You will usually receive your orders within 24 to 48 working hours of dispatch.

Please note that delivery times depend on the carrier selected.

Delivery charges are shown on the page dedicated to delivery charges.

We may be able to offer free delivery under certain conditions.

No, there are no customs charges to be expected. All parcels are dispatched from France. We have already paid the duties and taxes levied by the French government.

Please check your spam folder; the message from the courier may have ended up there.

Tracking links are available in the dispatch confirmation emails and in your customer account.

For deliveries to a collection point, the couriers will also send you a text message to let you know when your parcel is ready for collection.

If, 72 hours after dispatch, you have not heard anything about your parcel, please contact customer services. We will provide you with any missing information.

FAQ: Japanese products and the Satsuki range

The vast majority of the products available on Satsuki come from Japan.

However, as in France, not all products consumed in Japan are necessarily manufactured there. Some items may be produced in other Asian countries, depending on the recipes, manufacturers or production chains.

We also offer a few products manufactured in Europe, most often by Japanese companies or for Japanese brands, in order to comply with local standards whilst retaining the spirit and traditional uses of the original products.

The origin of each product is indicated directly on its product page, under the ‘Product Details’ tab.

Satsuki.fr is an online asian grocery shop specialising in products from Japan.

Here you’ll find Japanese food products for everyday cooking: soya sauce, miso, rice, ramen, udon and soba noodles, dashi, furikake, Japanese curry, seaweed, condiments, snacks, biscuits, sweets and drinks.

The shop also stocks Japanese tea, sake and Japanese spirits, crockery, kitchen utensils, as well as a selection of complementary Korean and other Asian products.

Our aim is to offer a range of everyday Japanese products, selected for their quality and value for money.

We strive to replicate as closely as possible what you might find, cook and use on a daily basis in Japan, with a range suited to beginners, connoisseurs and Japanese people living in France alike.

Yes, we also stock a few products from other Asian countries, such as China, Taiwan and Thailand.

Although Satsuki is first and foremost a Japanese grocery shop, some Asian products complement Japanese cuisine or are commonly used in Japan.

We also have a section dedicated to Korean products. Korean cuisine is very popular in Japan, and certain products such as Korean sauces, noodles, snacks and condiments naturally fit in alongside our Japanese selection.

Certain Asian grocery products naturally complement our selection when they are useful in the kitchen, popular with our customers or similar to those commonly used in Japan.

To get started with Japanese cooking, we recommend beginning with a few simple, versatile and easy-to-use ingredients.

A good basic selection might include soya sauce, miso, Japanese rice, udon, soba or ramen noodles, rice vinegar, mirin, dashi, sesame oil, as well as a few seasonings such as furikake, sesame seeds or nori seaweed.

With these ingredients, you can already prepare many everyday Japanese dishes: miso soup, hot or cold noodles, onigiri, donburi, simple broths or seasoned vegetables.

To get started, the easiest thing to do is to choose a recipe that takes your fancy from our Japanese recipe blog, then gradually build up your stock of basic ingredients as your tastes evolve and you decide which dishes you’d like to make.

Yes, the prices are 99 per cent the same.

The differences are usually due to promotional offers, which may vary between the shop and the website at any given time.

Yes, the allergens that must be declared are listed on the product pages under the ‘Ingredients and nutritional values’ tab.

They are also listed in French on the product packaging. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, we recommend that you always check the information on the packaging before consumption, as this remains the primary source of information.

We list the allergens that are required by law to be declared. Certain ingredients or possible traces are not classified as regulated allergens, even though they may cause sensitivity in some people.

We highlight claims such as ‘organic’, ‘vegan’ or ‘gluten-free’ when these are clearly stated by the manufacturer, particularly on the product packaging or in the official information provided to us.

If the label is not present on the packaging or confirmed by the manufacturer, we prefer not to include it, even where the product’s ingredients might suggest otherwise.

This approach enables us to avoid misinterpretations and to provide you with reliable information, based on the claims actually made by the brands.

We do our utmost to maintain a well-stocked catalogue, but the availability of Japanese products depends on many factors over which we unfortunately have little control.

Manufacturers and suppliers may themselves experience stock shortages, whilst demand varies greatly depending on the product and the time of year. Some items also have a relatively short best-before date: we therefore sometimes have to limit the quantities ordered to avoid waste.

Added to this are the distance from Japan, production and transport lead times that are often measured in months, as well as frequent changes to French and European regulations concerning the import of food products.

The international economic, trade or political climate can also slow down, or even prevent, certain restocking operations.

When a product is out of stock, an alert is displayed on the product page; you can sign up to be notified when it returns to stock.

DDMs and product traceability

The DDM, or Minimum Durability Date, corresponds to the phrase ‘Best before…’ found on many food products.

It indicates the date up to which the manufacturer guarantees all the product’s qualities: taste, texture, colour and nutritional properties.

Once this date has passed, the product is not automatically out of date. It may simply have lost some of its qualities.

The ‘Best before’ date is a guide only. It mainly applies to dry goods, tinned foods, sauces, drinks and dehydrated products.

The ‘Use by’ date, indicated by the words ‘Use by…’, is a date that must not be exceeded. It mainly applies to fresh and highly perishable products.

Yes, a product can generally be consumed after its best-before date if its packaging is intact, it has been stored correctly and it shows no signs of spoilage.

Before eating it, simply check its appearance, smell and the condition of its packaging. If in doubt, it is best not to eat it.

Over time, some products may lose a little of their flavour, become less crisp or change slightly in texture, without this necessarily making them unfit for consumption.

Where this information is available, the best-before date for the batch currently on offer is shown on the product page, under the ‘Product details’ tab.

This date may change when the batch is changed or the stock is replenished.

If a product’s best-before date is particularly close or has already passed, this is clearly indicated on its product page and in the shopping basket.

Japanese products are manufactured in Japan and then transported to France. Several weeks or months may elapse between manufacture, import and sale.

We always try to source batches with the longest possible use-by dates. However, this depends on the manufacturers, importers and availability in Japan.

A use-by date that is approaching does not mean that the product is about to become unfit for consumption. It simply indicates that its period of optimal quality is coming to an end.

On Japanese packaging, dates are usually shown in the order year, month, day.

For example, the date 26/08/15 corresponds to 15 August 2026, not 26 August 2015.

To avoid any confusion, you can refer to the English label affixed to the product or to the date shown on its product details page.

Once the product has been opened, the best-before date is no longer sufficient to determine its shelf life.

You should therefore follow the instructions on the packaging: store in the fridge, use within a certain period, or reseal the packet carefully.

Dry goods should generally be stored away from heat and moisture, in a tightly sealed packet or container.

We prefer to offer products that are still fit for consumption at a reduced price rather than throwing them away simply because their best-before date is approaching or has just passed.

These products are grouped together in our anti-waste range. Their dates are clearly indicated so that you can place your order with full knowledge of the facts.

This approach helps to reduce food waste whilst allowing you to benefit from more competitive prices.

Despite the fact that our company is a small business, we pay close attention to product traceability.

When a batch arrives at Satsuki, we record details such as its origin, supplier, batch number, use-by date, and the dates of receipt and stocking. When a batch is dispatched, we also record the date, the reason and, in the case of an online sale, the corresponding order.

This information enables us to quickly trace the products concerned in the event of an alert, withdrawal or recall.

For purchases made in our shop, we can identify the batch sold, but not necessarily the customer. The customer can only be identified if they logged into their customer account at the till.

Traceability information is retained for several years so that we can trace a batch’s history, even after the last unit has been sold.
