What is Sake Nigori?
Sake Nigori is a distinctive category of Japanese sake. The term nigori means “cloudy” in Japanese. Nigori sake is unfiltered or partially filtered, which gives it its characteristic milky appearance. During production, some of the rice remains in the liquid, giving it a thicker texture and a unique flavor.

Nigori sake offers rich, creamy flavors, often with notes of coconut, vanilla and tropical fruit. It can be slightly sweet, with a velvety mouthfeel. Due to the presence of rice particles, it has a cloudy appearance and can vary in thickness.
Nigori sake is best enjoyed chilled, between 5 and 10°C, to appreciate its smooth, creamy flavors. It goes well with spicy dishes, sweet desserts or fresh fruit, creating an interesting contrast with its creamy notes. Nigori sake is appreciated for its distinctive character and unique texture, offering a different experience from clear and filtered sakes.
