Sakés Nama
What is Sake Nama?
Nama sake is a special category of Japanese sake. The word nama means “raw” in Japanese. Nama sake is unpasteurized sake. Unlike other types of sake, which are usually pasteurized to stabilize the product and extend its shelf life, Nama sake is bottled without this crucial step, retaining fresher flavors and more vibrant aromas.
A fresh, lively sake
Nama sake is distinguished by its fresh, fruity aromas, with notes that may evoke apple, pear or hints of citrus. It tends to be livelier and more complex on the palate, with a texture that is often lighter and more sparkling. It is generally drunk young to take full advantage of its characteristics.
Nama sake is best drunk chilled, between 5 and 10°C, to appreciate its fresh, delicate nuances. It goes well with light, fresh dishes such as sashimi, seafood and Japanese salads. In short, Nama sake is an attractive option for those looking to explore fresher, more dynamic sake flavors, while discovering a different facet of the Japanese sake world.
