This 25 cm stainless steel folding steamer basket turns a suitably sized saucepan into a steamer. Its petal-shaped panels open out to hold your ingredients and fold back in for convenient storage after use.

Use it for vegetables, fish fillets or shumai, the little filled dumplings popular in Japan. Add a shallow layer of water to your saucepan, keeping the water level below the basket. Arrange your ingredients inside, cover with a lid and steam, checking that the pan does not run dry.

To help prevent dumplings from sticking, line the basket with a cabbage leaf or perforated baking paper, leaving room for steam to circulate. For an easy Japanese-style side dish, serve steamed vegetables with ponzu or sesame sauce.
