Incense ceremonies, kyara-hime, ?? ? were practiced by heart nobles, feudal lords and wealthy people. Commoners also had a great fascination with these ceremonies, although they probably rarely had access to actual scented woods. These ceremonies are often featured in Kabuki works and Joruri performances.

The word Kyara, which refers to a higher grade of aloe wood (agarwood or agar), even became a general term for "something unique". Hair balms evoking the scent of aloe wood are very popular: they provide a simple approach to perfume.

Enjoy the deep, rich scent of aloe wood, chosen by the people of old Edo as the most luxurious of perfumes.
