This bag contains 12 oinarisans (2 bags of 6pcs), pockets of fried soybeans seasoned withsoy sauce and mirin.
These pockets of fried tofu with a sweet/salty taste are used to make inarizushi. This preparation consists of a pocket of fried tofu filled with a ball of vinegared rice, the same as for sushi.
The seasoned Edomae Inari 江戸前いなり fried soy pockets can also be used cut into strips in miso soups or placed entirely on top of a bowl of udon, kitsune udon.
In Japan, foxes and the deity Inari, depicted as a fox are said to adore fried soybean pockets!
Note that there is also a variety of fried but unseasoned soybean pocket that is called abura age.
