The poke bowl is a dish originating in Hawaii that is very popular in Japan. The traditional recipe is based on diced pickled tuna, oilseeds (madamia and cashew nuts), avocado, seaweed, ginger, onion and rice, accompanied by a seasoning of soy sauce and sesame oil.
Many variations are possible, for example replacing the tuna with salmon, adding edamame soybeans, cucumbers, sesame seeds, etc.
The poke bowl is a simple dish to prepare and is similar to the Japanese chirashi.
