Kirimochi 切もち is a sticky rice steamed, pounded into a paste, then shaped into blocks and dried, then cut into more or less square or even round shapes.
In Japan, kirimochi is cooked baked, grilled, pan-fried, deep-fried or even boiled: uonce cooked, these rice mochi "cakes" soften and puff up to offer their sweet, hearty flavour as well as a deliciously chewy texture.
Japanese love it with soy or tamari sauce, nori seaweed, grated daikon radish or prepared with Kinako soy powder.
