Oden おでん is a type of Japanese stew that originates from the Kanto region, made up of 7 prefectures including Tokyo, gunma or Ibaraki for example.

Oden is most often made up of fish and vegetables simmered for a long time in a dashi broth. The ingredients differ depending on the region, but frequently include fried soybeans, potatoes, eggs, cabbage, daikon or even slices of konjac.

This Oden No Moto おでんの素 box from S&B contains enough to make an oden broth for 6 people.

The resulting broth can also be used as a broth for udon noodles or as dashi in dishes like Cantonese rice.
